"EU leaders have agreed to stop Georgia's EU accession process," EU Ambassador to Georgia Pavel Gerchinsky told reporters at the two-day international conference "EU enlargement - geopolitical necessity and next steps for EU candidate countries," SOVA reports. 

"On June 27, EU leaders, presidents, and prime ministers met in Brussels and took several important decisions, agreed on the EU's strategic agenda for the next period, reached an agreement on future EU leaders, reaffirmed our strong commitment to protect Ukraine, and unfortunately, and I am sorry to say this, they also agreed to stop Georgia's accession process to the European Union. This is very clearly stated in the conclusion of the European Council. Read it very carefully. The intentions of the current Georgian government are not clear to the leaders of the European Union. The law on transparency of foreign influence is clearly a step backwards... Also, the anti-Western, anti-European rhetoric is completely incompatible with the declared goal of joining the European Union. Unfortunately, at the moment Georgia's accession to the European Union has been suspended. This is really sad and heartbreaking," the Ambassador said.

The European Union froze the €30 million allocated for the Georgian Defense Ministry because of the law on foreign agents, the Ambassador said, "EU leaders decided to freeze the money that was allocated to support the Georgian Defense Forces within the framework of the European Peace Facility. By this point, the money that we planned to transfer to the Defense Ministry, €30 million, has been frozen."
