Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and the Estonian government have resigned, until the new cabinet takes office, she will continue to serve as acting prime minister, according to the online portal of broadcaster ERR.

"Kallas handed in her resignation letter to President Alar Karis ... The government ... has convened for an extraordinary meeting at which the prime minister and the entire government resigned," the portal said.

At the same time, Kallas will continue to serve as prime minister until the new cabinet takes office.

Kallas leaves her post in connection with the fact that at a summit in Brussels on June 28, leaders of the European Union approved her candidacy for the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security.
