By appointing a representative of the United States Army in the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, Washington intends to assist Yerevan in improving the management of the security sector. In response to Armenpress' inquiry, this was stated by the US Embassy in Armenia.

The US Department of State's Global Defense Reform Program supports partner countries around the world in building more resilient, effective, and accountable security institutions by providing strategic-level advisory support, the embassy noted.

Referring to the question of what functions will be assigned to the representative of the US Army in the MoD of Armenia, the embassy reported that the civilian advisor is not funded by the US Army or the Department of Defense, the funding is provided by the State Department, and the advisor will support the strengthening of Armenia's defense institutions. The advisor will work in Armenia, having regular working contacts with the US Embassy and the MoD of Armenia.

The embassy added that through advisory support, the US intends to assist Armenia in improving the management of the security sector, which in turn will contribute to the strengthening of Armenian-American relations.

The selection of this civilian adviser has been made, and the latter will start work later this year, the US Embassy in Armenia concluded.
