Lufthansa Group said its carriers will avoid Iranian and Iraqi airspace until Aug. 7 due to events in the Middle East, Reuters reported.

The group, which includes carriers Swiss International Air Lines, Austrian Airlines and Eurowings, said all flights to Tel Aviv, Tehran and Beirut have been suspended up to and including August 12.

Lufthansa Group said it was also suspending flights to the Jordanian capital, Amman, and the Iraqi city of Erbil until Aug. 7, citing "ongoing security analysis."

Tensions in the region rose sharply last week after the assassination in Tehran of the head of Palestinian militant group Hamas and an Israeli strike on the outskirts of Beirut that killed a top commander of Lebanon's Hezbollah armed group.

"Hezbollah and Iran have vowed to avenge Israel's killings, raising fears that fighting on several fronts could escalate into a full-scale regional war."
