The Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) has issued its latest Contemporary Trends in Militarisation report, which describes trends in the world's military industry, reports the VOA.

Among other things, the authors of the report have calculated the share of military spending in the state budgets of various countries.

Accordingly, the military sector occupies the most important place in the economy of North Korea, with at least 24 percent of the country’s GDP in 2023.

Among the former USSR countries, Armenia (4.2%) and Azerbaijan (3.8%) are the highest on this list.

It is noted that in Armenia this indicator has increased by 0.7 percent compared to 2008, and in Azerbaijan—by 0.5 percent.

But in Georgia, this indicator is only 1.3 percent, while since 2008 it has decreased by 6.6 percent.

In Russia, this figure was 2.4 percent, in Turkey—0.7 percent, and in Iran—2.2 percent.

Military spending in the US economy is 3.1 percent, while 15 years ago, this indicator had reached 4.7 percent.
