ORENBURG. – Members of the Orenburg city chapter of the Interregional Committee Against Torture in Russia held a picket in front of the Internal Affairs Ministry’s local department, on Tuesday, and protested the growing number of violence in Russia’s law enforcement system, the Committee’s Press Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.  

The picket coincided with the launching of a criminal case against Armenia’s citizen Armen Sargsyan’s, 34, death at a police precinct. 

As the Committee informed, Sargsyan was detained by the police and taken to the operational intelligence department, on November 18. On the same night, Armen’s relatives were informed that he was at the morgue. Upon arrival at the morgue, Sargsyan’s parents noticed physical injuries, and the physician told Armen’s father that Armen’s kidneys and testicles were damaged.         

But the police disseminated information that Sargsyan had died as a result of heart failure.

Arsen’s parents subsequently applied to the Interregional Committee Against Torture in Russia.
