The situation in the Middle East has reached a critical level of dangerosity, for the region and beyond, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell noted on X—formerly Twitter.

“I support Lebanon PM Mikati call for the immediate application of UNSCR 1701, in addition to the much-needed ceasefire in Gaza, to conjure the risk of a full blown war,” Borrell added.

Israeli warplanes attacked the territory of Lebanon Sunday. Hezbollah then launched hundreds of drones and rockets at Israel in response to the killing of its commander, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut.
