An Israeli airstrike on Monday in southern Lebanon killed two people inside a car, including a contracted female staff member of a United Nations peacekeeping mission near the border, Reuters reported.

Lebanon's Health Ministry said the two people were killed in an Israeli shelling of a car in the southern coastal town of Naqoura.

The UN Peacekeeping Mission (UNIFIL) said one of the victims was an employee of a cleaning company contracted by the agency.

“The employee of the contractor and another person in the car, who we understand was visiting from abroad, were killed,” UNIFIL spokeswoman Candice Ardiel said, adding that attacks on civilians were violations of international humanitarian law.
