The Estonian authorities plan to allocate 40 million euros in 2025 to fortify the Estonian-Russian border. Such a proposal was presented to the Estonian government by Minister of the Interior Lauri Laanemets, reports ERR, the Estonian state TV and radio portal.

According to the minister, this money will be required for the repair of the structures installed at the beginning of the construction of border infrastructure, and the completion of access roads and additional telecommunication systems.

These measures will increase the reliability of the entire security system and enable border guards to quickly respond to illegal border crossings, Laanemets said.

The development of border infrastructure is planned to be completed by the end of 2025.

Laanemets added that Estonia wants to create a drone wall on the border with Russia, which will enable detecting and repelling such devices.

Furthermore, the possibility of creating a special unit of reserve forces to help Estonian law enforcement agencies in the event of a migration crisis is being discussed.

The implementation of these measures in 2025 will require an additional allocation of 60 million euros.

The Estonian government has not yet discussed the matter of their funding, added the minister.
