Iran does not seek to create nuclear weapons, but, on the contrary, is ready to fully return to the fulfillment of the obligations undertaken within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced during a roundtable discussion with reporters in New York, ISNA reports.

"We [i.e. Iran] are fully ready to return to our obligations under the [JCPOA] agreement. But it should not be the case that the United States and European countries, not wanting to fulfill their obligations, in turn ask us to return to our obligations," Pezeshkian said.

There is no place for nuclear weapons in Iran's military doctrine, the president emphasized.

"While some countries falsely accused us of trying to create nuclear weapons, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conducted the most thorough monitoring in Iran," Pezeshkian said.

Iran has repeatedly stated that the country has a fatwa by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei that the production of nuclear weapons is against Islam. Iranian politicians point to this as an argument for the exclusively peaceful nature of the Iranian national nuclear program.
