The right of Armenians displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh to safely return to their homes is important for the restoration of the dignity of the Armenian people and stability in the region. This is stated in a statement by U.S. Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris addressed to the Armenian-American community:

“I send you my best wishes on this day as you celebrate Armenia's Independence Day.

As we celebrate this day, we must also never forget the Armenian Genocide, when some 1.5 million Armenians were forced to leave their homes, were murdered and walked towards their deaths.

It is a tragedy that continues to shape the identity of the Armenian people. The resilience of the Armenian-American community remains an inspiration in our collective American history. I remain committed to a lasting peace between Armenia and its neighbors based on respect for sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
