At the time of statements addressed to PACE Secretary General Alain Berset, Armen Gevorgyan, a member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, urged him to make all possible efforts to achieve the release of the detainees in Baku before COP29.
“Luis Moreno Ocampo, the first prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, has publicly assessed Azerbaijan's policy in Nagorno-Karabakh as genocide. The Lemkin Institute for the Prevention of Genocide announced that a new era of “acceptable genocide” began in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2023. Ilham Aliyev publicly promises his citizens that they will live in the territories of Armenia, calling them Western Azerbaijan. Armenian prisoners, including the former leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh, continue to be detained in Baku.
After all this, COP29 is being held in Azerbaijan under the slogan “COP for Peace.”
Mr. Secretary General,
Today, I urge you to make all possible efforts to achieve the release of prisoners in Baku before COP 29,” Armen Gevorgyan said.
Gevorgyan urged PACE Secretary General to take measures on release of Armenians held in Baku ahead of COP29
