The matter of the opening of new Russian diplomatic missions on the territory of Azerbaijan is currently being worked on at the political level. Aleksey Klimov, Director of the Consular Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), stated this in an interview with TASS—and answering the question of when a new consulate general of Russia will be opened in Azerbaijan and whether it will be opened in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Along with the wording of respective agreements with the Azerbaijani side, the [Russian MFA] Consular Department will join the implementation of practical steps related to it," said Klimov.
