The US embassy in Armenia has responded to the statement of Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia.

A few days ago, Bortnikov had stated as follows at a meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS Security and Law Enforcement Agencies: "The Americans and Europeans are clearly not interested in establishing stability in Transcaucasia [i.e. the South Caucasus]. By persuading Yerevan to postpone negotiations with Baku, the West is trying to lead the Azerbaijani-Armenian settlement process and achieve the deployment of its ‘peacekeeping’ contingent in the region."

The First Channel News of Armenia asked the US Embassy in Armenia to comment on the aforesaid statement. And the response of this diplomatic mission states as follows: "Our support is aimed at helping countries respond to their citizens’ demands for having accountable, democratic leaders who work to strengthen peace, stability, and prosperity."
