A group of citizens are protesting in front of the UN office in Armenia, and demanding the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages illegally being held in Azerbaijan.

Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Ombudsman Gegham Stepanyan, the initiator of this protest, announced that protests have started in various countries ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) to be held in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku in November and they also have joined them.

"We notice that as the day of the conference approaches, there is a certain activeness in the international arena regarding this issue. It is planned to hold a discussion on these topics at the Council of Europe," said Stepanyan and noted that these days, when the world is focused on Azerbaijan, it is necessary to force this country to comply with the international provisions of human rights.

"The demand should be submitted in order to generate as much pressure as possible," Stepanyan said, adding that they plan to hold such protests not only outside the UN office in Armenia, but also in front of the Armenian foreign ministry, as well as the Russian, French, and US embassies in Armenia, during which letters with the same demand will be handed to the addressees.
