Nathalie Loiseau, a French Member of the European Parliament (MEP) has informed that on her initiative, the European Parliament could hold a debate on the COP29 climate conference to be held in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku in November.

"The protection of the planet is, of course, important. But the holding of the conference in Baku raises serious questions," Loiseau said.

She reminded that Azerbaijan's economy depends on hydrocarbons, and human rights are violated en masse in that country.

Loiseau added that Azerbaijan is carrying out hostile actions against France.

"Furthermore, Baku has not yet made peace with Armenia and is guilty of the ethnic cleansing of 100,000 Armenians [of Nagorno-Karabakh]," added the MEP.

US Congressman Frank Pallone also expressed concern that the Azerbaijani authorities were not held accountable for their actions. They must not be allowed to use the COP29 to restore their standing, Pallone said.
