A possible victory of Donald Trump, the candidate of the Republican Party in the US presidential elections in November, will sharply worsen relations between the United States and the European Union (EU) due to the inability of the European community to take on the obligations of providing aid to Ukraine, according to an article in Politico.eu.

According to its assessments, the possible victory of Trump, who has called into question the further assistance to Ukraine from the US, will instantly bring the American-European relations into crisis.

Europe does not have the capabilities and financial resources to fill the gap that would be created if the US decides to no longer help Ukraine, emphasizes Politico.

In addition, Trump's victory will encourage some EU countries, particularly Germany, to focus on strengthening their own security, rather than continuing to help Ukraine.

Thus, according to a study by the European think tank Bruegel, Germany is unable to secure sufficient funding for its defense budget, and at current purchase rates, it will take decades for the country's military stockpiles to reach the 2004 level.
