Ukraine will either make nuclear weapons or join NATO, announced President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the press conference held after the European Council session.
"Who gave up nuclear weapons? Everyone? No. Only Ukraine. Who is at war today? Ukraine. And that's why it's like that with us. In a conversation with Donald Trump, I told him: ‘What is the way out? Either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons, and that's a defense for us, or we'll have to have some kind of alliance.’ Apart from NATO, we don't know any effective alliance today," Zelenskyy said, reports the Ukrainian Hromadske newspaper.
The Ukrainian president added that Kyiv chose the North Atlantic Alliance, not the making of nuclear weapons.
"I think that Donald Trump heard me in this case. He said: ‘You have fair arguments,’" Zelenskyy added.
