It is natural that if the border is not delimited, it is obvious that somewhere you can be a little in front somewhere I can be in front. Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, stated this speaking with reporters at the NA Wednesday—and referring to the question of whether the statement he made Tuesday that there are places on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border where the Armenian side is in front is dangerous, as this can give the Azerbaijanis an argument that the Armenians themselves admit that they are in some parts of the territories of Azerbaijan.
"There are at least two triangles in Tavush [Province of Armenia] where their [i.e. Azerbaijan] triangle is under our control, and ours is in their part. It's no secret to anyone. What I said is the following: in all those places where they are in front, they have to go back, in all those places we are in front, we have to go back. Ours is ours, theirs is theirs," said the Armenian NA speaker, adding that he does not have detailed information about the situation in which section.
And referring to the fact that on Tuesday he called the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from the territory of Armenia a "small detail" and noted that they did not discuss it with Azerbaijan, Simonyan said: "The main goal is to establish peace, record our 39,743 square kilometers, and specify the border. I do not consider it a small detail; I say that in the global picture we must address global issues. There are many important issues that are not included in the peace treaty [with Azerbaijan]. You can never include all issues. None of them can be considered a small detail, but today the main goal is to reproduce the border and sign a peace treaty. After that, our citizens will trade, make mutual visits with our neighbors, all issues will be resolved."
