French Ambassador Olivier Decottignies had visited Nerkin Hand village as well during his visit to Syunik Province of Armenia.

"I visited to support all of Syunik, including Nerkin Hand. I just watched, I saw everything that is going on. Yes. A part of Nerkin Hand is taken by Azerbaijan, and we see it. That situation causes great difficulties for the [local] residents, there is a feeling of insecurity, the strikes [by Azerbaijan] can start again," said Decottignies, speaking with reporters in Goris city.

According to the French diplomat, there are problems related to daily life, and the local population even has a water problem.

"That's why I said that people cannot visit the graves of their relatives," he added.

Olivier Decottignies noted that Nerkin Hand is surrounded by Azerbaijanis on three sides.

"We still manage to go to Nerkin Hand from one side," he added.

Regarding the remark that a section of the Goris-Kapan motorway is also under the control of Azerbaijan, the French ambassador said: "I spoke only about Nerkin Hand."

As for the entire border, the French ambassador said they support the process of border delimitation that has started between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"The delimitation should be based on the Almaty Declaration [of 1991]; that is what the [two] parties should come to an agreement on," Olivier Decottignies added.
