According to polls, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris appears to be improving over current U.S. President Joe Biden in 2020 among older voters and white voters and losing ground among younger voters and voters of color, ABC News reported.

The latest round of polling before the election appears to continue that trend.

Harris' results are 6 percentage points higher than Biden's 2020 performance among white voters, while she has lost support among black voters and Hispanic voters.

But white voters make up a much higher percentage of the electorate than other demographic groups: according to 2020 exit polls, 67 percent of voters in 2020 identified themselves as white. And in key northern states - Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania - the share of white voters is even higher - 81% in Michigan and Pennsylvania and 86% in Wisconsin. That may explain some of the trends in opinion polls over the past few months, where Harris' performance in those three states has been better than in other swing states. However, there are some indications that national polls may be overestimating Harris' relative weakness among voters of color.
