In the US congressional election, which takes place at the same time as the presidential election in the country, the Republicans have won 51 out of 100 seats in the Senate before the end of the vote count, reports Fox News.

Before the current elections, the majority in the Senate belonged to the Democrats.

As of 8:30am Wednesday, the Republicans are leading in the House of Representatives elections also, having received 165 of the 218 seats necessary to form a majority, while the Democrats have received 112 seats, adds Fox News.
