US President Joe Biden addressed the nation on Thursday after former President Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, urging Americans to “embrace the choice the country has made” and his supporters to “pull together.”

“We embrace the choices the country has made,” he said in a brief speech in the White House Rose Garden. - I've said many times that you can't love your country only when you win. You can't love your neighbor only when you agree.”

“I will fulfill my duty as president: I will fulfill my oath of office, and I will honor the Constitution. On Jan. 20, we will have a peaceful transition of power in America,” Biden said Thursday, urging voters across the political spectrum to ”turn down the temperature.”

Biden acknowledged, however, that the gains made by his administration “have not yet been felt by the American people” and suggested it would take years to feel their effects.

He also urged Americans disappointed by Harris' defeat not to give up.

“Failure is inevitable, but giving up is inexcusable. We all get knocked down, but the measure of our character, as my father would say, is how quickly we get back up on our feet. Remember, defeat does not mean we are defeated. We lost this battle. The America of your dreams calls on you to rise to the occasion,” Biden said.
