The victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential election may motivate Turkey to intensify mediation efforts aimed at the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, Turkish pro-government daily Hurriyet wrote, commenting on the results of the aforesaid election.

The newspaper recalled that one of Trump's main promises during his election campaign was the cessation of the conflict in Ukraine.

"[Russian president] Putin expected that Trump would win. In this way, he hoped to sit at the table of peace negotiations with [Ukrainian president] Zelenskyy, who would lose US support. Putin's calculation worked. This process can bring [Turkish] President Erdogan to the fore, as he is the only leader who can talk to Putin, Zelenskyy, and Trump," Hurriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi notes.

In his view, Zelenskyy has topped the list of “losers” in the US election.

And among the “winners,” the journalist mentions Russian President Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is known for his efforts towards the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
