The Pentagon will send more than 500 interceptor missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine. This ammunition will arrive in the country in the coming weeks, a senior US presidential administration official told The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the latter reports.

According to another WSJ interlocutor, these deliveries shall meet Ukraine's air defense needs until the end of this year.

US arms and ammunition deliveries to Ukraine typically take weeks or months, and the impact of the planned increase in supplies on US weapons stockpiles—especially air defense systems—raises serious concerns, one of the aforesaid newspaper's sources said.

Another interlocutor emphasized that Washington is considering the possibility of buying weapons from some other countries in order to transfer them to Ukraine.

However, it's unclear whether this policy will remain in place when US President-elect Donald Trump takes office next year.
