UK authorities expect US President Joe Biden to authorize the use of Western long-range missiles to strike deep into Russian territory before the end of his term in office in January, sources in the UK government say, reports The Telegraph.

"We are very keen to make sure we can make the most of the time between now and January 20 [when Donald Trump becomes US president] and not just put everything on hold until the next [US] administration," a senior Whitehall source said.

Another source noted that the UK government expects Biden to accelerate economic aid to Ukraine in the coming weeks.

The matter of permission to use UK long-range Storm Shadow missiles for strikes deep into Russia will be discussed at the meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday in Paris.

If the move is approved, it will be difficult for US President-elect Donald Trump to review this decision when he takes office on January 20, adds The Telegraph.
