Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev spoke about the possibility of Armenia's participation in the COP29 climate conference that will get underway in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

"Armenia has been sent an invitation to participate in COP," Aliyev announced during a meeting with visiting Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Monday.

Aliyev said that "Armenia has been invited to attend COP, but whether it participates or not remains Armenia’s decision."

To note, COP29 is a UN event, and therefore it was Azerbaijan's obligation to invite all parties.

And during his meeting with visiting Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo on the same day, Aliyev commented on the process of agreeing on the draft peace treaty with Armenia. According to him, as a result of the active negotiations of the past one year, major progress has been made in this regard, including in the matter of border delimitation.

"The existing territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the constitution of Armenia continue to be an obstacle to the signing of the peace treaty, and [therefore] this constitution must be amended," Aliyev repeated.
