The Argentine authorities have instructed their delegation to leave the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) being held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, La Nacion newspaper reports.

The Argentine experts sent to COP29 by Argentina's Secretariat of Environmental Protection had attended the first two days of this conference, but were later ordered to leave the event.

"[Argentina's] Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an instruction to return," the aforesaid agency told La Nacion.

Argentine President Javier Milei, who took office in December 2023, has repeatedly said he does not believe human influence on climate change has been proven and has banned his country’s diplomats from supporting the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
