Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree approving the Foundations of State Policy in the Field of Nuclear Deterrence, the country’s updated nuclear doctrine, TASS reports.

The main provisions of the amended nuclear doctrine are:

Aggression against Russia and its allies by a non-nuclear country with the support of a nuclear state will be considered as a joint attack;

Russia's readiness and determination to use nuclear weapons will ensure nuclear deterrence;

Russia can use nuclear weapons in case of a critical threat to its and Belarus' sovereignty and territorial integrity;

The updated nuclear doctrine defines the adversary against which nuclear deterrence is exercised;

The conditions for the use of nuclear weapons include the use of ballistic missiles against Russia;

And provision of territory and resources for aggression against Russia is the basis of nuclear deterrence of such a state.
