The presidential election of Georgia will take place before the end of the year, speaker of the parliament, Shalva Papuashvili said, reports Georgia News.

Earlier, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze had announced that the presidential election in Georgia will be held in early January.

"There are certain circumstances that are important to take into account... It is important that both the [presidential] elections and the inauguration take place this year," Papuashvili said.

According to him, the presidential election day will be announced Tuesday.

The name of the ruling party’s presidential candidate has not been announced yet.

Incumbent Salome Zourabichvili is the last directly elected president of Georgia.

Under the earlier amendments in the constitution, now the president of Georgia shall be elected by an electoral college consisting of 300 voters.
