The official visit of Polish President Andrzej Duda to Armenia started Monday evening.

One of the main topics of his talks in Yerevan will be the situation in the region and the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, said Mieszko Pawlak, Undersecretary of State and Head of the International Policy Bureau of the Polish president, reports the RFE/RL Armenian service.

The peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan continues, and Poland hopes that it will be completed soon, Pawlak said during a press briefing. He noted that two weeks ago, President Duda participated in the COP29 climate conference in Azerbaijan capital Baku, met with the Azerbaijani president, and discussed also the situation in Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and the peace process.

Now is the time to talk with the Armenian side, Pawlak added, without elaborating on the talks with the Azerbaijani side.

Stressing that Poland will chair the EU Council from January, Pawlak stated that EU expansion will be one of the priorities of Poland's chairmanship.

Armenia does not see to join the EU, but in recent years it has become much more open to cooperation with the West and the EU, and the Polish chairmanship will strengthen that trend, Pawlak added.

This is the first visit by a president of Poland to Armenia in the last 13 years.
