Armenia’s High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Zareh Sinanyan, maintains contact with the Syrian Armenian community representatives in order to obtain information about the current situation as a result of the recent military tension in Syria and, accordingly, to provide possible assistance.

In an interview with Armenpress, Sinanyan noted that, although the means of communication are working poorly, they are trying to maintain the contact by all possible means.

According to him, as a result of the recent military tension, a serious situation has arisen in Aleppo where up to 10,000 Armenians are in the area under the control of the militants.

As per Sinanyan, the Armenians of Aleppo prefer to stay in their homes and cannot leave the city, so there is no possibility of evacuation for now.

As a result of the ongoing military operations, an uneasy situation has arisen also in Kessab and Damascus, especially since, as Sinanyan noted, the Syrian government troops have not succeeded in stopping the advance of the militants.

According to Armenia’s High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, the situation in Latakia is relatively calm.

Nevertheless, in the cities where the situation is relatively calm, local Armenians are worried about their relatives in the settlements that are in the center of hostilities.
