Only the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) can ensure the security of Armenia. Vladimir Dzhabarov, Deputy Chair of the Russian Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, said this in an interview with NEWS.ru.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had noted that "every second" Armenia was moving further away from the CSTO. In his words, quoted by RIA Novosti, if the “point of no return” has not yet been crossed, then it will most likely happen. Back in September, Pashinyan had announced that Armenia has distanced itself from the CSTO because of the threat that the organization has created for the country's sovereignty.

According to Dzhabarov, Russia hopes that all differences with Armenia will be resolved.

"I am a supporter of the position presented by our president. I just don't see who can replace, who can ensure—apart from the CSTO—the security of Armenia in case of external threat," he said.

Dzhabarov expressed doubt that the US will be able to become a good partner for Armenia. He cited the example of Ukraine, which tried to establish relations with the US instead of Russia.

"I hope that common sense will prevail in our relations. Russia was, is, and will remain the only loyal friend of the people of Armenian in the foreseeable future," he said.
