Russia has received security guarantees for its military bases in Syria from the leaders of the opposition, which seized power in Syria, a Kremlin source told TASS.
"Russian officials are in contact with representatives of the Syrian armed opposition, whose leaders have guaranteed the security of Russian military bases," said the interlocutor of the aforementioned Russian state news agency.
According to another TASS source, the rebels have taken full control of Latakia, where the Russian military bases are located. They entered the territory of Tartus and Jableh at the moment when the opposition in Damascus had announced the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad.
"The [Syrian] opposition members have no intention of invading the territory of the Russian military bases [in Syria]," the TASS interlocutor emphasized.
