Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani on Tuesday called on Iran to respect the will of the Syrian people and the country's sovereignty.

"Iran must respect the will of the Syrian people and the country's sovereignty and security," al-Shibani wrote on X. “We warn them from spreading chaos in Syria and we hold them accountable for the repercussions of the latest remarks."

Al-Shibani's statement was a response to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who, in a televised address on Sunday, had called on Syrian youth to "stand with firm determination against those who have orchestrated and brought about this insecurity [in Syria]."

Last Saturday, the interim government of Syria appointed Asaad Hassan al-Shibani as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
