The agreement on comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Iran will include defense and security matters, said Esmail Baghaei, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Iran.

"The cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia has different aspects. An important part of it is trade-economic, energy, as well as defense and security issues. This agreement will update and complement the existing agreement of 2001 [and based on the principles of relations and cooperation between Moscow and Tehran]," the Iran MFA spokesperson said at the weekly press briefing.

"During the last 20 to 30 years, Iran and Russia have considerably expanded the scope of cooperation, so the need arose to update the document," Baghaei noted.
