The Kremlin has said that Armenia's possible membership in the European Union (EU) is its sovereign right, but being a member of two different international organizations is impossible, Interfax reports.

"What does [Armenia's] membership in the EU mean? Now it's hard to say, as of course, being a member of two different organizations, hypothetically speaking, is impossible," Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian president, told reporters Thursday, when asked about Moscow's position on Armenia's EU membership prospects. The relevant procedure was launched by the Armenian authorities.

"Certainly, it is the sovereign right of Armenia. We know that [Armenia’s] membership in the EAEU [i.e. the Eurasian Economic Union] is beneficial," added the Kremlin spox.
