The European Union (EU) independently launches the processes of joining the union. So, it is necessary to wait for the reaction of Brussels to the initiative of Armenia to join the EU. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, stated this in a press briefing Thursday, reports TASS.

"We know that the European Union launches the [EU] membership processes. Here it is necessary to know what the position of the European Union is in this matter," the Kremlin spokesperson said.

Also, Peskov reminded about the fate of Turkey, which for many years maintains its orientation toward EU membership, but "does not meet with much reciprocity from Brussels."

"Many issues need to be clarified here, [many] things need to be understood. But in fact we need to start from the existing mechanisms, work integration formats, which have already guaranteed themselves and continue to work for the benefit of the state, and which continue to work for the benefit of the peoples of the countries participating in them," the Kremlin spox concluded.
