Armenia highlights the Armenian-Iranian warm relations, which have a centuries-old history and are based on mutual respect. Armenia-Iran relations are of great strategic importance. The deputy chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security of the Republic of Armenia National Assembly (RA NA), Armen Khachatryan stated this when welcoming the parliamentary delegation of the Iran-Armenia Friendship Group of the Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). Underscoring the necessity of cooperation in parliamentary various formats, Khachatryan noted that it will be an impetus for the further expansion of interparliamentary cooperation and implementation of the upcoming initiatives.
Thanking the aforesaid committee members for warm reception, the head of the Iran-Armenia Friendship Group of the IRI Majlis, Ara Shahverdian—who is an Iranian Armenian—, noted that Armenia has its special position and importance in the foreign policy of Iran, the NA informs.
“As the Supreme Leader of Iran underlined, we support the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and oppose geopolitical changes in borders and the region,” Shahverdian said.
Armen Khachatryan emphasized the importance of Iran’s position on issues of regional security, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.
In advancing the bilateral agenda, it was noted that there are many spheres of cooperation where interaction needs to be deepened.
The meeting with the members of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security was held on Monday.
