Moscow knows that sooner or later signals of readiness for negotiations will come from Washington, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said, Kommersant reports.

He noted that the Kremlin is ready to respond to these signals, but now there are no contacts to prepare a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump.

“Not yet. Our president has repeatedly said that we are ready for dialog. We are calmly waiting for signals,” Mr. Ushakov said in a comment to journalist Pavel Zarubin.

According to him, Putin and Trump can call at any moment.

The presidential aide noted that it is usually the first heads of state who take office. At the same time, the Kremlin is not “sitting and waiting for a phone call to come from Washington.” “We are ready to listen to the relevant proposals and respond constructively to them,” Ushakov added.

Earlier, Trump's national security adviser Mike Walz said that preparations for the meeting between Trump and Putin “are in full swing.”

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, stressed that work on the organization of contacts between the presidents can begin only after the inauguration of Trump.
