Israel's full government voted to approve a truce agreement with the Palestinian group Hamas after the security cabinet gave its blessing to the deal on Friday, the Times of Israel reported.

Israel's Prime Minister's Office released a statement confirming that the government had approved the agreement. According to Israeli media, 24 ministers voted in favor and eight voted against the deal.

The statement also said the deal will take effect on Sunday when the first three Israeli hostages are released. In the first, 42-day phase of the deal, 33 hostages are to be released.

Now that the Israeli government has approved the agreement, opponents of the deal can petition the High Court of Justice against the release of Palestinian prisoners who must be freed, although the court is unlikely to intervene.
