Armenian foreign minister Ararat Mirzoyan has called not to look for a reason for a scandal in the departure of Russian border guards from Armenia’s border with Iran. Mirzoyan on Tuesday stated this at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Moscow.
Mirzoyan reminded that at the request of Armenia, the Russian border guards were temporarily engaged in ensuring the security of the Armenian-Iranian border from the first days of Armenia's independence in 1991.
"After some time, we [i.e. Armenia] thanked the Russian side and the relevant services for such a long service at the border, and informed that this part of the [Armenian] border can be protected by our own forces from now on. There is no source of political scandal here either," said the Armenian FM.
