Azerbaijani ambassador to Tehran Ali Alizadeh was summoned to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Friday and was handed a note of protest over the “immoral actions of certain circles” against Iranian students in Azerbaijan, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reports.

During a meeting with the Azerbaijani diplomat, Mojtaba Demirchiloo, Head of the Eurasia Department of the Iranian MFA, called such actions “harmful,” and demanded that “the organizers and authors of such negative actions be held accountable.”

Also, the Iranian official stressed the need to “resolutely fight against any insults” against religious figures.

“The Azerbaijani ambassador expressed regret for some negative statements and actions, and promised to inform the authorities of his country about the situation.”

According to the Azerbaijani Turan news agency, ten Iranian students studying at the Azerbaijan Medical University have been expelled from the country in recent days for "immoral behavior."
