Moscow is recording good progress in the matter of delimitation and demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, RIA Novosti reports.

Overchuk noted that Russia welcomes the agreements between Baku and Yerevan to start the process of border delimitation and demarcation from the Armenia-Georgia-Azerbaijan intersection in the north toward the south

“Very big, good progress has been recorded. Part of the [Armenian-Azerbaijani] border has been delimited and demarcated. Now they [i.e. Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Mher Grigoryan and Shahin Mustafayev], as far as I know, recently met, agreed to start the process of border delimitation and demarcation, they will move from north to south,” Overchuk told reporters. “We [i.e. Russia] have always welcomed such contact and such joint work, as it will undoubtedly contribute to the stability of the region.”

Overchuk noted that Russia has always supported the process of delimitation and demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and, in that regard, is ready to provide cartographic materials upon request.

“We have always supported this process,” Overchuk emphasized.

The Russian deputy premier noted that Moscow is ready to provide advisory assistance to the two countries—and based on its extensive experience in this type of work, including with Azerbaijan itself.

“In terms of information, you know, Russia has the corresponding cartographic material, which, if necessary, can be provided at the request of the parties engaged in border delimitation and demarcation,” Overchuk added.
