I must honestly say that we do not feel bad in the EAEU. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during his press conference Friday.

“The numbers speak for themselves. Moreover, we are interested in deepening and developing our relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. But on the other hand, we cannot fail to notice the aspirations of at least a certain and very tangible part of our people to form choices, options for the future of Armenia.

Today is a very important phase for us to talk about the strategic future of our country; but the conversation about that future cannot take place if there is no choice. Our balancing and balanced foreign policy is also for this, because when there is no choice, it turns out that there isn’t much need to think much either.

There are two options: either you say, ‘Well, there is no choice, and there is not much to think about,’ [and] the second option is that you say, ‘We must form a choice, so that whatever choice we make, that choice be organic, real, and not fake.’ Our policy is aimed at that.

We will continue the path in this direction. And this path is also a process where real and sincere friends may differ from not real and insincere friends,” Pashinyan stated.

And as for Iran, the Armenian PM said: “We have supported and continue to support so that there are developments in relations between Iran and the EAEU [i.e. the Eurasian Economic Union]. In 2019, the [then] president of Iran participated in the EAEU summit in Yerevan at my invitation. Also, the first vice president of Iran participated in the session of the EAEU Intergovernmental Council in 2024 and we, of course, support Iran.”
