The new Belgian federal government calls on Azerbaijan to ensure the safe return of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. This is stipulated in the government program.

According to Armenpress correspondent in Brussels, after 236 days of negotiations, an agreement was reached on the formation of a new federal government headed by future Prime Minister Bart de Wever.

The program of the new right-wing government of Belgium is a 200-page document covering all federal spheres: tax policy, labor and unemployment, pension system, security, immigration, mobility, climate, defense, and foreign policy. The program also touches on the South Caucasus.

 According to the new government, the South Caucasus deserves more attention from Europe. “Not only do we have deep cultural ties with this strategically important region, but it also plays a crucial role in our future energy supplies and as a transportation corridor to Asia. Tense relations and ongoing conflicts, especially between Armenia and Azerbaijan, require a focused approach from Europe and Belgium.

We unequivocally demand respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the parties and call on Azerbaijan to ensure the safe return of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh.

By continuing economic, political and humanitarian cooperation, we contribute to the stability of the region,” says the political program of the new Belgian government. The new Belgian government will run the country until 2029, unless there is a new crisis and the government falls.
