The preliminary investigation revealed that Archimandrite  Koujanian had left the Burj Hammoud area and arrived at his apartment. Syrian laborers were working in the apartment, they stabbed him, stole the cross he was wearing in addition to other belongings and fled. This is stated in a statement by the Armenian community of Lebanon.

“As a result of the brutal crime, the victim was stabbed several times with sharp objects and knives in different parts of his body. Archimandrite Anania Koujanian is the deputy archbishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Lebanon and is in charge of managing the community's affairs in Zahle and Anjar,” the statement of the Lebanese Armenian community said.

Earlier, the Armenian Diocese of Lebanon reported that a young Armenian clergyman, Archimandrite Anania Koujanian, was found murdered in his own house in the town of Bsalim in Lebanon today.
