The humanitarian assistance programs of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Armenia have not been suspended at this time. This was informed by the Armenian mission of the USAID—and in response to a respective request from Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Recalling that US President Donald Trump has ordered the USAID to suspend payments, Armenian News-NEWS.am had sent a request to USAID Armenia to find out whether funding for Armenian programs has been suspended.

The US Secretary of State has approved the provision of basic humanitarian assistance aimed at saving lives and established exceptions for assistance provided for certain purposes. Currently ongoing humanitarian assistance programs aimed at saving lives shall continue or resume work, USAID Armenia responded to the aforesaid request.

Also, it noted that they receive requests to make exceptions.

They are immediately processing requests for exemptions, and several urgent requests were approved within hours, the response added.

In 2023, the USAID provided $72 billion in assistance worldwide. Also, the agency funded a number of projects in Armenia to assist the forcibly displaced Armenians of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has signed an order freezing payments for most US foreign assistance programs through USAID for 90 days and suspending new grant disbursements.
