An operation to identify terrorists is being held on the border between Russia and Azerbaijan from February 3 to 10, the press service of the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.

“Complex operational-search and preventive measures under the conditional name “Border-Shield” are being carried out on the territory of Azerbaijan's districts bordering Russia. The operations are conducted in accordance with a mutual agreement reached between the interior ministers,” the statement reads.

The main goals of the operation are:

implementation of decisions on border cooperation;

identification and neutralization of members of transnational organized crime groups and terrorist organizations;

carrying out complex measures to identify and suppress the channels of financial and material resources aimed at the transportation of weapons, explosives and devices, drugs, as well as the realization of other illegal acts.

It is specified that police posts were established in Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Balaken, Zagatala, Gakh, Sheki, Oguz and Gabala districts.
