We expect the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to continue to take all necessary measures in accordance with the norms of international humanitarian law to protect the captives and other held persons. The deputy chair of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Rustam Bakoyan, stated this at the meeting with the head of the ICRC Delegation in Armenia, Daphnee Maret, the NA informs.
It was noted that the ICRC employees regularly visit the Armenians being held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
“In my opinion, your organization, being a neutral and independent mediator, while also maintaining confidentiality, needs to communicate and exchange information with the Azerbaijani authorities,” said Bakoyan.
During the meeting, the periodic visits of the ICRC to Armenian prisoners of war and other persons being held in Azerbaijan, criminal trials initiated in Azerbaijan against Armenians, and some other humanitarian issues were discussed.
